As the Toyota Agya may not be available for a while now, another economy class car to replace the Agya is introduced in Indonesia this year by Toyota. The car called Etios Valco will be competing with other economy cars already available here such as the Honda Brio and the Mitsubishi Mirage.
Originally introduced for the Indian market in 2010 and South Africa and Brazil in 2012 as Toyota Etios, it has been a success and so far has sold more than 100 thousand units of both Etios sedan and the Etios Liva hatchback.
The Toyota Agya is facing a bit if a snag since the Low Cost Green Car (LCGC) regulation which supposed to make it affordable has not been issued by the Indonesian Government. This has caused some of the pre ordered Agya to be now in limbo and in fact some of the Toyota dealership has stopped taking the orders for a new Agya.
The Etios on the other hand does not need the LCGC regulation as it is already affordable with some feature just below the Agya.
From the outside the Etios Valco looks nowhere near as good as the Yaris which is one step above the Valco. However, since the price is also a lot better, the Valco should be compared more to the Honda Brio, and Valco exterior looks much better.
The front grille and headlight already following the new Toyota design similar to the New Yaris. There is a black honeycomb at the front bumper that has fog lamps on either side. The curve of the car is more pronounced, giving an agile look and lean, and connecting the front and the rear end. Because the rear end is a little bit wider than the competitor, it is somehow easier on the eyes.
The Etios Valco is just a little bit bigger at 3,775 mm long, 1,695 wide and 1,510 tall compare to the Honda Brio at is 3,610mm long, 1,680 mm wide and 1,485 mm tall. The Valco also has higher ground clearance at 170 mm compare to the Brio at 140 mm which really helpful navigating the bumpy road once you get to your housing complex.
All three version of the Valco (J, E and G) are only available in 5 speed manual transmission. The car is powered by 1.2 liter 4 cylinders, 16 valve DOHC engine capable of producing maximum power of 80 ps at 5,600 rpm with maximum torque of 10.6 kgm at 3,100 rpm.
The interior is pretty simple with middle speedometer which is distinct Toyota. The rest of the instruments are pretty basic but again, for a car its class and its price it is not too bad.
The Etios Valco is available is 6 color options Silver Metallic, Blue Metallic, Gray Metallic, Beige Metallic, White and Black Mica.
The car is priced at
Toyota Etios Valco Type G M/T Rp. 161.600.000
Toyota Etios Valco Type E M/T Rp. 149.900.000
Toyota Etios Valco Type J M/T Rp. 135.500.000
