Suzuki Ertiga Is Reasonably Priced For It Size

Suzuki has been successfully inserted itself as one of the best low cost MPV manufacturer in Indonesia with its Suzuki APV and its Suzuki APV Arena. However, those cars are a tad too big for the some of the Indonesian family and too boxy for others.

If you go one class smaller, you will see Suzuki SX4, Suzuki Splash and Suzuki Swift. So middle size family either has to settle for the APV or go for Suzuki Carry which is known for its toughness and reliability but looks like it was designed in the last century.

Now, Suzuki has a solution to that problem, the already popular Suzuki Swift platform is extended which means the car will get the Swift stylish look but capable of carrying more than just four people. New car was born, the Suzuki Ertiga.

Suzuki Ertiga is designed in Japan with Asian market in mind. The Ertiga it self comes from the letter R which stands for Rows and the word Tiga, which means three in Bahasa. Translated literally Ertiga means Three Rows, in fact it was introduced to Indonesian market as RIII. Although Suzuki Ertiga was first introduced and produced in India, Suzuki Japan has always had Indonesian market in mind. At the moment Suzuki Ertiga is also assembled locally at PT. Suzuki Indomobil Motor plant in Bekasi, West Java.

The Suzuki Ertiga was first introduced as a concept vehicle at 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi India early January 2012. The car is powered with K14B light weight aluminum engine providing responsive power while still maintaining power. The 1.373 liter 4 cylinder DOHC 16 valve VVT is equipped with multi point injection to electronically control fuel supply into the engine. The engine is capable of producing 95ps@6000rpm power with torque of 130nm@4000rpm. The fuel usage is 16 km/liter with a tank that can hold 45 liter gasoline fuel.

Currently the three types of Suzuki Ertiga available in Indonesia are only equipped with manual transmission. All of those types are using the same engine with difference only in the safety and car trims.

The exterior of Suzuki Ertiga is pretty simple and compact. You can’t really see the Swift connection even though both of the cars utilizing the same platform, it looks more like a shorter version of Nissan Grand Livina. However, just like the Suzuki Swift, the Front Wheel Drive Ertiga also has a monocoque chassis equipped with MacPherson Strut with coil spring for the front suspension and torsion beam with coil spring for the rear suspension. Both suspensions can significantly reduce vibration, so it remains comfortable on the pavement and non paved road.

The Suzuki Ertiga is 4,265 mm long, 1,695 wide and 1,685 tall with a ground clearance of 185 mm while the Nisan Grand Livina 4,420 mm long, 1,690 mm wide and 1,595 tall with the same ground clearance of 185 mm. This means that while the Nissan Grand Livina is about 15 cm longer, The Suzuki Ertiga is actually wider and taller albeit with only small margin.

For the interior, there is an instrument panel with a modern design and luxury. The three spoke steering wheel equipped with tilt steering and audio switches. The head unit is using integrated audio system equipped with 2 Din CD players that can play MP3, USB connection, aux-in system that can be connected directly to an iPod and 4 speakers and 2 tweeters. The Ertiga MID (multi information display) can display outside temperature, instantaneous and average fuel consumption as well as hours.

Al in all the Suzuki Ertiga is a good car. The one that make it excellent is the price. The top of the line Suzuki Ertiga cost as much as the entry level Nissan Grand Livina.
