The Mazda 6 FL version has been available quietly in Indonesia for sometimes. The car is the Mazda answer to the like of Honda Accord and Toyota Camry but so far, it doesn’t have much luck, but now the 2014 Mazda 6 has been introduced with many improvements.

For one thing, this all new Mazda 6 is the first mass produced model that has the Mazda unique brake energy regeneration system or i-ELOOP. This system uses a capacitor instead of a battery to store the electricity which allows better supply of power when required improving fuel economy by as much as 10%.

The broad shoulder which is sculpted from the front through the rear of the car gives a more aggressive yet modern look while still following the Kodo design applicable to all new Mazda cars.

The 2014 Mazda 6 is powered by 2.5 liter SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder with VVT with an option of a choice of 6 speed manual or 6 speed Sport automatic transmission. The Skyactive technology which means sky is the limit is also new technology only available in Mazda CX-5 and the all-new Mazda 6. This technology has a higher compression ratio and better piston cavity to get more energy from the fuel and an improved exhaust system for a better performance.

This has resulted in an engine that is capable of producing substantially more power that its predecessor at maximum power of 184 hp at 5700 rpm with maximum torque of 185 lb-ft at 3250 rpm.

The fuel efficiency is 10.6 km/liter city driving and 15.7 km/liter highway driving for the manual transmission type and the slight better of 11 km/liter city driving and 16.1 km/liter highway driving for the automatic transmission type. The fuel tank can hold 62 liter of fuel.

The 2014 Mazda 6 is bigger that the currently available version. With the dimension of 4,864 mm long, 1,838 mm wide and 1,450 mm tall it is just a bit longer but smaller than the 2013 Honda Accord of 4,861 mm long, 1,849 mm wide and 1,465 mm.

Although the interior layout is similar but the material has been upgraded as well as the instrument panel and gauges are re designed to fit with the new style.

There is a new 5.8 inch touch screen in the center stack with Bose audio system complete with USB, iPod, auxiliary jacks and Bluetooth connectivity for phones and digital music.

The current Mazda6 FL is priced at Rp 486 million. The 2014 Mazda 6, if it ever available in Indonesia, will probably be around Rp 20 million more expensive.
