Another large MPV is introduced to Indonesia with the help of the IIMS 2012 in Jakarta, Indonesia. This time the MPV carries the Zoom Zoom looks which directed towards the kids we all have inside. And not to shabby, more than 600 unit of Mazda Biante were sold during the 10 days event.
The Mazda Biante which gets its name from the word Ambient has been designed specifically and available only for the Japanese market since 2008. The car made its debut in July 2008 and surpassed its target on the first month of sales. This obviously made Mazda hopeful and will definitely try to recreate the success here in Indonesia.
Looking at the price Mazda suggested for the Mazda Biante, it will go head to head with Hyundai H-1 rather than the more expensive car such as Toyota Alphard and if the winner was decided based solely on looks, the Mazda Biante will win hands down.
There is only one version of Mazda Biante available in Indonesia and it is powered by 2.0 liter DISI in line 4 cylinder DOHC, 16 valves with sequential valve timing and electronic throttle control. This engine has a max power of 150ps / 6,200rpm with max torque of 19.4 kg-m / 4,500 rpm. The Biante is available only in 5 speed automatic transmission.
Size wise the Mazda Biante is 4,715 mm long, 1,770 mm wide and 1,835 mm tall which is considerably smaller than the Hyundai H-1 at 5,125 mm long, 1,920 mm wide and 1,935 mm tall. However, the smaller size has provided a better fuel efficiency at 13.6 km/ litter (under Japan’s 10-15 mode test cycle) thanks to the ‘i-stop’ engine stop/start system. The fuel tank can carry maximum 60 liter of gasoline fuel.
The Mazda Biante design was intended to be attractive at first glance. There is a sharp headlight unit that flow into the large triangular A-pillar windows which gives a futuristic impression connected seamlessly all the way along the side windows. At the front side, there is a Mazda distinct large three bars fascia with almost triangle fog lamp on each side.
The backside of Mazda Biante also equally eye catching. There are two stylish vertical reflectors built into each side of the rear bumper as well as large LED rear combination lights with a touch of chrome here and there.
The Mazda Biante interior claimed to be the longest and widest interior dimensions in its class. The spacious and open impression is emphasized by expansive side windows with low sills and large triangular A-pillar windows. The second row seats can be pushed backward by an outstanding 863 mm and the wide aperture dual sliding doors as well as low floor, also added to the available space.
The power sliding doors is equipped with a touch sensor to prevent them from closing if anything is obstructing the opening. And the beauty of the Mazda Biante compare to competitor in its class is that Mazda Biante has two sliding doors.
Additional features that provide a clean and comfortable cabin space include a ‘nanoe ion’ air purification system, an Allergy Buster unit (a particulate filter to aid allergy sufferers), a deodorizer in the cabin ceiling and easy-wipe seat fabric.
The Mazda Biante is priced at Rp 380 million
