The Honda Brio fever is really engulfing the Indonesian car market. As always Honda comes up with a beautiful design and especially for Honda Brio, coupled with reasonable price, it resonates well with the consumers.
Just this October alone, the PT. Honda Prospect Motor (HPM) has sold close to 2,000 units of Brio even though many still have to wait for a while before they can get their hands on the car.
In fact the Automotive Journalist Forum (Forwot) crowned the Brio as the best car of the year with 159 point beating Suzuki Ertiga (153 points), All New Ford Focus (119 points), and Mazda CX 5 (81 points).
To grab the opportunity, Honda is building a second plant in Indonesia to build their cars which will more than double its car production. The current factory can churns around 60 thousand unit per year.
Other than making it easier to buy Honda Brio, the second factory, proposed to be built in Karawang, will also build a Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Brio in 2014. The Honda Brio MPV will use 80 percent local component and will go head to head with Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia, Chevrolet Spin and Nissan Evalia.
The three-row, seven-seater MPV will be based on the stretched Honda Brio platform is codenamed 2NH. Honda has not officially revealed what the car will look like but other automotive sites such as theophiluschin.com and motorbeam.com have come up with their own rendered version of the car which maybe the closest to the real image available right now.
Although the Honda Brio MPV does not look as luxurious as other Honda line up such as Honda Freed and Honda Odyssey which are the other Honda MPV available in Indonesia, the biggest advantage of Honda Brio MPV will be its pricing.
However, it needs to be minded that Honda is actually has a pretty complete line up of MPV already in Indonesia and Honda Freed is still the third best seller of all Honda cars just behind Honda CRV and Honda Jazz.
It is possible that the Honda Brio MPV will be targeted more for overseas market such as India and Thailand than domestic market. The car is expected to be priced between Rp 150 million to Rp 200 million if it hoped to compete with other low budget MPV.
And since there is no videos available for Honda Brio MPV, lets just watch these stupid drivers with their fancy cars instead.
