Honda Brio Cheaper Than Honda Jazz

Honda Brio is a new small car concept from Honda without sacrificing the passenger compartment. This concept is called 4M or Man Maximum, Machine Minimum which is compacting the engine to allow sufficient cabin spacer for 4 normal size adults inside without discomfort.

Honda Brio is developed as an urban commuter with height of 1,475 mm, 1,680 mm wide and 3,610 mm long, which is just a little bit smaller than Chevrolet Spark.

In its press release, Honda said that Honda Brio will be the cheapest or entry level Honda below Honda Jazz and specifically designed for developed country such as Thailand and India. Unfortunately, the press release failed to mention Indonesia.

At the moment Honda Brio is already available in Thailand and recently in India. The car is claimed to have complied with eco standard in both countries boasting a fuel usage of 20 km per liter. Some of the car parts are made domestically to reduce the price even further.

PT Honda Prospect Motor which is the sole distributor of Honda in Indonesia says that they still studying the possibility of bringing Honda Brio to Indonesia. In Thailand, which has a similar car price structure compare to Indonesia, the car is sold at around 400,000 baths or Rp 120 million for the entry level and 500,000 baths or around Rp 145 million for the top level. There are four level of Honda Brio from standard manual to V automatic.

Brio is not just cheaper but also more environmentally friendly

It is possible that Honda Prospect Motor is reluctant to bring Honda Brio to Indonesia since their Honda Jazz is doing so well and Brio will only put a dent in Jazz market share as Brio is not just cheaper by a lot but also more environmentally friendly compare to Jazz. As a comparison in India Honda Jazz is not doing as good as in Indonesia.

Honda Brio is powered by 1.2 liter 4 cylinder i-VTEC gasoline engines capable of producing 90 hp with stringent Euro 4 emission standards. This somewhat stripped down version of Honda Jazz engine is available in 5 speed manual transmission and automatic transmission.

The interior of Honda Brio top level comes with standard luxury for any top level Honda including climate control, power steering, power window, central locking, rear defogger, rear washer, rear wiper, alloy wheels, ABS with EBD and dual airbags.

Will Honda Brio ever be introduced to Indonesia? Well, As Honda it self admit, Honda Brio is designed specifically for Asian market and at the moment, Indonesia is still the largest market in South East Asia. It is going to be very hard for Honda to ignore the sheer size of Indonesian market.

So expect Honda Brio to come in very soon either towards the end of 2011 or at the beginning of 2012.
