BMW 520d The First BMW 5 Series With Diesel Engine in Indonesia

The Indonesian BMW enthusiast has something to be cheering about. This year the PT BMW Indonesia introduced the 2011 BMW 520d which has received five stars rating for both the Euro and US NCAP (New Car Assessment program) for safety.

Actually, other BMW models have also received the maximum 5 ratings from both of NCAP. So what is so special about the 2011 BMW 520d? Well, the 520D is the first premium executive saloon introduced in Indonesia powered by a four-cylinder clean diesel engine.

The three types of BMW 5 series that already enters Indonesia in the middle of last year were powered by three six cylinder petrol engines. Those models are BMW 523i, BMW 528i and BMW 535i.

The 2011 BMW 520d which uses using the BMW Advanced Diesel technology allows it to have a low CO2 emission of 137 g/km.  The 1.995 litre engine also uses the latest generation of Common Rail Injection system and a turbocharger which gives a performanceas well as efficiency.

The diesel engine is capable of producing 184 hp at 4,000 rpm offering maximum torque of 380 Nm from 1,750 to 2,750 rpm. The 2011 BMW520D can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds with top speed of around 225 km/hour.

The average fuel consumption is 19.2 km/l and can use Pertamina DEX, Dynamic Diesel from Petronas, Shell Diesel and Performance from Total. This leaves plenty of option for the customer throughout Indonesia.

The new 2011 BMW 520d features 8-speed automatic transmission with Steptronic and its design is in line with the rest of the BMW 5 series sedan such as long wheelbase, short overhangs, long bonnet, and the coupe-like, sleek roofline. It also featured the double-wishbone front suspension and aluminum integral rear-axle which introduced for the first time by the BMW 5 series.

The closer spacing of gear ratios allows for comfort and smoother drive as well faster gearshifts. Additional convenience that comes with this premium sedan include LED lights, Servotronic steering assist, keyless start, cruise control with braking function and front and rear park distance control.

The interior available in two colours black and high gloss with luxury such as ambient light including vicinity lighting, electric seat adjustment, with memory function for driver’s seat, electric steering column adjustment and 2-zone control automatic air conditioning

In the sound department, the 2011 BMW 520d is equipped with high resolution 7” display, BMW Professional Radio CD, BMW Stereo loudspeaker system with 6 loudspeakers, USB Audio Interface and the integrated owner’s handbook.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedan is equipped with BMW EfficientDynamics technologies. Innovations include Brake Energy Regeneration, electromechanical steering and low rolling-resistance tires. Intelligent lightweight construction is found in the design of the doors, engine compartment lid, front side panels and suspension components made of aluminum.
